July Queens Academy

Hey ladies: join 9 Queens and Bookmans at the Bookmans Low Lounge in the Girl Scout Resource Center on July 25 from 2-4 for free chess lessons. Women and girls of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend. This month intermediate and advanced players will be reviewing positions from the recent US Women’s Chess Championship in St. Louis. Beginners will play pawn and rook games while reviewing the rules and basic strategies. For more information email jhoffman@www.9queens.org.

Don’t miss a very special 9 Queens Academy on June 27 from 2-4 at the Girl Scout Resource Center. This month 9 Queens is hosting a checkmate challenge (with prizes) for female chess players of all ages and abilities. Beginners welcome! Deadly Decoys this Sunday

Reminder: do not miss the 9 Queens Ladies Chess Academy this Sunday, May 23 from 2-4 pm at the Bookmans Low Lounge in the Girl Scout Resource Center!!! This month National Master Leo Martinez will be teaching advanced players how to create deadly decoys to distract their opponents. Beginners will learn the king and queen dance while going over how all the pieces move. This free workshop is generously sponsored by Bookmans.

Bookmans and the Chess Fest Challenge

Do not miss this amazing opportunity to learn how to play at the 3rd Annual Chess Fest from 3-5 pm on April 10 at the Hotel Congress!

This year’s Chess Fest will not only feature free chess lessons, but also provide participants with “chess passports.” Anyone, regardless of age, can come by the Chess Fest, pick up a “passport,” and visit each of the six stations to learn how the pieces move. The first 500 participants to go through all the stations and learn how to play chess will receive a $5 gift certificate from Bookmans!

Ladies of Tucson- do not miss a spectacular 9 Queens Academy this Sunday, March 21 from 2-4 pm at Bookmans on Grant and Campbell. National Master Leo Martinez will be teaching a tantalizing lesson on winning tempo in the opening, while expert Amanda Mateer will show you how to make the most out of exchanging pieces (especially the Queen). 9 Queens and Bookmans are gearing up again to provide free chess workshops for women and girls of all ages and abilities!!! Due to increased attendance rates, we are now offering two workshops  (beginners only workshop and an intermediate/advanced workshop) every month. Every workshop will take place at Bookmans on Grant and Campbell.
