Join 9 Queens on July 6 from 7-9 at the Bookmans on Speedway for Family Chess Night- an evening filled of chess, puzzles and fun. This July’s puzzle of the month is a puzzle taken from one of former World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer’s games. Can you find a way for white to checkmate black in five moves? Bring the solution to Family Chess Night and receive a prize!
Bobby Fischer is the subject of a new documentary from HBO- have you seen the previews or watched the documentary yet?
We are so excited about the Harry and the Potters Live event coming up this Saturday. June 11 at the Hotel Congress as part of the 2nd Saturdays in Downtown Tucson. All of our favorite community partners will be there including Bookmans, Mrs Tiggy Winkles and the Pima County Public Library. Be sure to visit us and play some wizard chess with pieces dressed as characters from the movie.
Check out this Battle of the Hogwarts guide to the game courtesy of 9 Queens youth board member Yurika Isoe!
To me, chess is a fun sport that anyone can play. It is not like other sports because it tests your mind, not your physical ability; so,an eight year-old could play a 40 year-old. It is one of few games that luck isn’t involved in. It is based completely on skill. It is important to me because it teaches people to think ahead. Chess is kind of like a war game because you are trying to take pieces so you can capture the king
